Viaden Media joins International Chamber of Commerce (ICC)

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

July 4th, 2007, Viaden Media became a full member of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Viaden Media, member of W3C and a High Technologies Park of Belarus, is the first and the only Belarusian company-member of ICC.

ICC is the most influential, popular and trustworthy international non-governmental organization that works to promote and support global trade and globalization processes. ICC membership groups thousands of companies, such as British American Tabacco, IBM, Mitsubishi, Occidental Petroleum, Pirelli, Pfizer, Shell, Thomas Cook, etc., of every size in over 130 countries worldwide. They represent a broad cross-section of business activity including manufacturing, trade, services and the professions. Through membership of ICC, companies shape rules and policies that stimulate international trade and investment. These companies in turn count on the prestige and expertise of ICC to get business views across to governments and intergovernmental organizations, such as WTO, U.N.O. and others, whose decisions affect corporate finances and operations worldwide. ICC has direct access to national governments worldwide through its national committees among others, making helpful suggestions on how to create the most favourable climate for international business development.

ICC contributes significantly by creating a wide range of documents to control activity in all economic spheres. Incoterms, standard trade definitions most commonly used in international sales contracts, can be considered the brightest example of ICC activity. A significant function of the International Chamber of Commerce is also the preparation and promotion of its Uniform Customs and Practice Documentary Credits (UCP), a set of rules on the issuance and use of letters of credit. The UCP has substantially universal effect. Devised and published by the International Chamber of Commerce, Incoterms, UCP along with other ICC rules are at the heart of world trade.

International Chamber of Commerce also serves as an advocate of world business in the global economy. The ICC International Court of Arbitration is the most respected service of its kind in the world. Its voluntary rule-writing for business spreads best practice in areas as varied as banking, marketing, anti-corruption and environmental management. Their policy-making and advocacy work keeps national governments, the United Nations system and other global bodies apprised of the views of the world business on some of the most pressing issues of the day. French Gambling Monopoly

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

The highest appeals court in France, Cour de Cessation, has ruled against the French state-sponsored sports betting monopoly, Paris Mutuel Urbain, in a landmark case.

The appeals court handed down its ruling yesterday in its review of sanctions brought against Zeturf, a company trying to break into the online gambling on horse racing market. The online gambling news website GamingIntelligenceGroup.com reported Cour de Cessation as determining that the French gambling monopoly can only be legitimate if it part of a crime prevention initiative.

The ruling is in line with the legal opinion of the European Commission, which has publicly stated their position in regards to state-sponsored gambling monopolies within the European Union. To ensure the free movement of services within the EU, the rules only allow member states to prohibit gambling companies from operating within their borders if they are trying to ensure public health through protection from crime. They cannot prevent foreign gambling companies from accessing their citizens if that prevention is only to protect a state-sponsored gambling company from competition. The EC has stated any restrictions on gambling must be applied in a systematic and coherent fashion. (more…)

Recently a new Foreign Trade Agreement on the Work resulting in Poker software development has been signed between Dathal srl, Italy and Viaden Media, Belarus.

Inspired by “Wild-Wild West” American ideas this poker is to excite secret feelings of courage and bravery, fortitude and recklessness. Ten Signs You Are Obsessed With Online Gambling

Friday, July 6th, 2007

1. When your English professor says the author made his point; you ask if he pressed or not.

2. You show up early at the bakery to take advantage of the hot rolls.

3. You go into a 7-11 and ask to play the “don’t.”

4. You go to a hockey game and wonder what happened to the dealers and boxman.

5. When your kid says math “came easy” today, you ask if it was a 4,6,8 or 10.

6. When an ambulance passes with flashing lights, you assume someone hit a “hand pay.”

7. You go into a shoe store and ask if they have 4, 6, or 8 deck.

8. You hear the bible story where Lazarus is told to “Come out”, and you ask for a 2-way C & E.

9. You wonder if a salad shooter is really a gambling device.

10. When the bartender asks if you want a “double”, you say not against an ace.

Online Poker Could Net US Billions in Tax Revenue

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Regulating Internet poker could potentially bring the US government some $3.3 billion in annual taxes, according to a study to be released in summer 2006, ahead of an anticipated debate over legislation to ban online gambling.

Income taxes on winnings from Internet poker alone — which is estimated to have attracted $60 billion in wagers worldwide in 2005 — could amount to $2.5 billion each year, according to the study commissioned by the Poker Players Alliance, a group calling for the regulation of online gambling. Global Legality for Gambling Business

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Depending on whom you talk to, the legality of online gambling in the United States remains as murky as ever. Last year saw new legislation being passed which resulted in big changes being made to the way the industry was run and, more than half a year later, still no one seems to know what’s in store for the online gambling industry as we know it, especially whether or not it will be possible for Americans to continue playing. Further into 2007 we will no doubt see some light shed on the issue, but until then we’ll have to wait in the dark to see what’ will happen.

Although the online gambling picture in the US is foggy at best and the debate continues to rage, this article is intended to address the legality of online gambling in different countries around the world, particularly the differences between the United States and the other major market for online gambling – Europe, Australia, and Asia.

Poker Prohibition in the US

The recent measures taken by the US government hearken back to the beginning of the twentieth century when the sale of alcohol was made illegal, in an attempt to reinforce a “moral” lifestyle, as those in power saw it. As you know, the efforts of the teetotallers to impose on the whole of society their beliefs were in vain, just as we foresee the end of attempts to criminalize online gaming. (more…)

Google in Conflict with Itself!

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Hello world.
You know Google world is amazing… and full of surprises! Look here is a piece of info I have just found in Google AdWords policy:

” Advertising is not permitted for online casinos, sports books, bingo, and affiliates with the primary purpose of driving traffic to online gambling sites.

This includes, but is not limited to, the promotion of online casinos and gambling activities, sports books, lotteries, bingo, poker, sites that provide tips, odds and handicapping, software facilitating online casinos and gambling, gambling tutoring online, gambling related eBooks, sites where the primary purpose is ‘play for fun’ gambling, or ‘play for fun’ gambling or casino games of skill, and affiliates with the primary purpose of driving traffic to online gambling sites.”

Now, tell me how could it come that there are still ads to the right gambling related to the right on our search results page?

Well, there are several reasons:

1. Google hasn’t disapproved those ads yet. :)
2. Google shuts its eyes to this

Any other quess-works?

A founder of payment processor NETeller pleaded guilty on Friday to a conspiracy charge over the handling of billions of dollars in illegal gambling proceeds.

Stephen Lawrence, 47, during a hearing before U.S. District Judge P. Kevin Castel in Manhattan, also agreed to cooperate with the government. Lawrence, who is also a former chairman of the company, faces a maximum sentence of five years on the conspiracy charge for his role in the operation of the payment processor.

NETeller co-founder and former President John Lefebvre was also charged in January. The case against him is still pending, the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan said in a statement.
