Poker player Lee is in trouble
Although Lee won millions of dollars at the WSOP, News 4 WOAI is reporting that the famous San Antonio resident is now facing serious charges related to gambling.
Police confirmed to the TV station that the district attorney filed charges against Lee for promoting gambling.
Back in 2006 Lee made a serious run at the WSOP Main Event before running into a red-hot Jamie Gold. Lee moved all-in with pocket jacks and Gold called with pocket queens. Nothing came for Lee on the board, and he finished in sixth place for $2.8 million.
Lee was famous for being a poster boy for his home town of San Antonio. Throughout the Main Event he wore a bright red shirt that had “San Antonio” emblazoned on the front, despite probably getting offers from numerous online poker rooms to wear their shirts.
Since then Lee suffered a major setback when police froze his bank accounts, seized his cars and claimed he was one of the biggest bookmakers in town.
News 4 WOAI talked to Lee in 2006 and asked him outright if he was responsible for illegal gambling.
“Do I engage in illegal gambling?” he asked at the time. “You know, I don’t think so.”
That didn’t satisfy the police and they dug even deeper into his background and considered charging him.
Again Lee was asked if he was an online bookie but he wouldn’t give an answer, saying he didn’t have to at the time.
Lee has been unreachable for comment since he was officially charged. He has not been arrested.
