Sportsbook Poker: poker room for US players only!
Sportsbook Poker is a growing poker site on the increasingly popular Cake poker network which is, as opposed to most poker rooms, actually available only to U.S. players. The software was developed by a group of poker players and has a very functional lobby and nice graphics, which contribute to a great overall playing experience. Sportsbook Poker also has very loose and juicy games for the small-stakes player, with lots of gamblers drifting over from the sportsbook and casino.

The Sportsbook Poker poker room opened in 2006 on the Cake poker network and immediately established itself as a major player. The poker room has grown very quickly and offers maybe the loosest and juiciest games available online today. The player base is recruited through the sportsbook and casino, making a large portion of the players beginners and very easy to beat.
The software features nice graphics and functionality, as it was developed by a group of poker players looking to “re-invent” the online poker world. Game play is very good and offers basically everything most poker players need, with table statistics, fast action, the ability to play over 10 tables simultaneously and great support features.
Players will find all variations of Texas Hold’em on the site, as well as Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo, Seven-Card Stud and Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo. The games vary between No-Limit, Pot-Limit and Fixed-Limit. Full-table games, short-handed, and heads-up tables are all available. The games are concentrated on No-Limit Hold’em, especially at the small and middle limits, but at peak hours players can be found at pretty much any limit and game.
Sportsbook Poker offers a decent amount of tournaments in both Omaha and Texas Hold’em. The traffic volume overall is in the lower segment of the industry but is growing fast. Sportsbook Poker also offers monthly massive-value $100,000 freerolls.
Real-money player statistics as of April 2008 show 1,700 ring-game players at peak hours, and 6,000 tournament players at peak hours.
Overall, Sportsbook Poker offers very loose and juicy games and great software that plays well and is fast. The software is updated frequently to ensure safety and stability, with little downtime as a result.
Game Variety
Sportsbook Poker offers a very nice variety of games, with Texas Hold’em, Omaha Hi-Lo, Omaha Hi, Five-Card Stud Hi and Seven-Card Stud Hi all available in Limit and Pot-Limit. Hold’em is also offered in No-Limit of course. Table stakes range from 4¢/8¢ to $100/$200 in the fixed games and 2¢/4¢ to $50/$100 in Pot-Limit and No-Limit games.
The relatively active player base also ensures action at all varieties during peak hours, making Sportsbook Poker a great choice for most players.
Game Volume:
Rake
The rake at Sportsbook Poker is just under the industry average at 5%, with a $3 maximum rake at any game. There is a “no flop, no drop” policy, allowing pots where there isn’t a flop seen to be rake-free. The rake varies depending on the number of players at the table, and short-handed tables actually give players a nice rake rebate at most limits, capping the rake at $1 for 2-3 players, $2 for 4-5 players and only taking the maximum $3 when a table is populated by six players or more.
Support
Sportsbook Poker offers support via e-mail, live chat and a 24/7 support phone number. Response time and friendliness is top notch and answers are accurate.
Financial Security
Very good. The parent company is a well-known and very respected sportsbook that has been doing business for over 10 years. No reported problems with deposits and withdrawals are recorded.
