In America, a survey by the Oregon Department of Human Services has found that 33 percent of teenagers have gambled online for free.
According to the Statesman Journal newspaper, there are around 1,700 gambling sites offering everything from casino games and poker to bingo with the state’s study showing 94,659 twelve to 17-year-olds had taken part over the last year for free.

Officials stated that they were worried by the results of the survey because the free sites introduce teenagers to gambling and may groom them for real-money games. (more…)

You know there is a Fundamental Theorem of Algebra and on of Calculus. So it is the right time to introduce (by David Skolansky) the Fundamental Theorem of Poker:

Every time you play a hand differently from the way you would have played it if you could see all your opponents’ cards, they gain; and every time you play your hand the same way you would have played it if you could see all their cards, they lose. Conversely, every time opponents play their hands differently from the way they would have if they could see all your cards, you gain; and every time they play their hands the same way they would have played if they could see all your cards, you loose.

Example: suppose your hand is not as good as your opponent’s when you bet. Your opponent calls your bet, and you lose. But in fact you have not lost; you have gained! Why? Because obviously your opponent’s correct play, if he knew what you had, would be to raise. Therefore, you have gained when he doesn’t raise, and if he folds, you have gained a tremendous amount! Austria licenses Austria-based companies to offer lottery services and casino gaming via remote channels (Internet, mobile phones, and interactive television). Only Austrian residents are allowed to play at sites.

Austria views remote bookmaking services as an extension of state-licensed land-based operations. Both domestic and foreign-based license holders are permitted to offer services via remote channels.

Austria is one of nine European Member States whose gambling legislation is under investigation by the European Commission for potentially being over-restrictive with regards to EU free trade laws. Austria permits its licensed companies to advertise in the country but forbids foreign-licensed companies from doing so.

South Africa’s Parliament approved a new internet gambling law to regulate an industry plagued by crime and vulnerable to money laundering and terrorism financing, parliamentary papers showed today.

A memorandum attached to the National Gambling Amendment Bill said the interactive gambling industry was currently unregulated and “generally plagued” by crime. “This situation has resulted in a considerable loss of revenue to the national fiscus and compromises the country’s reputation as a responsible global citizen,” it said. Today I have been given one book I’m going to read very carefully. It is “Introduction to the Theory of Poker” by David Sklansky.

David Sklansky (born 1947,in Teaneck, New Jersey) is a professional poker player and author.
Sklansky grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey, where he graduated from Teaneck High School in 1966. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, but left before graduation. He returned to Teaneck and passed multiple Society of Actuaries exams by the time he was 20, and worked for an actuarial firm.
Sklansky is generally considered a top authority on gambling. He has written many books on poker, blackjack, and general gambling. His book, the Theory of Poker, is considered to be a quintessential poker primer. (more…)

In a closely watched case that could have significant consequences for the online gaming industry, a King County judge on Thursday upheld a Washington state statute that outlaws Internet gambling. But Lee Rousso, the attorney who brought the case seeking to have the law overturned, has vowed to continue the fight. He promised an appeal saying he will take his case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary.

The 2006 statute at the heart of the case was an amendment to the 1973 Washington Gambling Act, which had previously only banned the “receipt or transmission of gambling information” through such means as the radio, phone and telegraph. The amendment broadened the law to include the Internet. The amendment also upgraded a violation of the law from a gross misdemeanor to a felony, and made violations of the law subject to seizure and forfeiture. (more…)

The American Gaming Association (AGA) opened its office in Washington, D.C., in June 1995 with the fundamental goal of creating a better understanding of the gaming entertainment industry by bringing facts about the industry to the general public, elected officials, other decision makers and the media through education and advocacy.
