Obama administration gives hope for Online Casino Industry

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Nobody is sure what is or what will happen with online gambling situation in United States. A lot of people have no clue how the whole circumstance is developing. However, some companies are surreptitiously seeking to go back into American market throughout the Obama administration.

A lot of online companies gave up the U.S. market following the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act being issued by Republicans in Congress in 2006. At the present, some of those companies are following carefully what is taking place in America.

Lately the US Treasury issued the regulations for UIGEA – whilst this was unpleasant news as it indicates the act was at last being imposed, it did not change much apart from making financial institutions adjust their contract letters to clients. Obama, the present President-elect who is going to be inaugurated in January 2009, is not going to make online gambling a main concern but his democrat administration is going to be much more moderate.

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Yes, it is!!!!!!!!!!!

Rather controversially catching the attention of industry observers this week is the reported opinion of a Swiss academic, who told a South African conference on addiction that Internet gamblers are “much more likely” to become pathological gamblers than those who frequent land casinos, and that the Internet does not provide problem gambling help.

These bald statements attracted the attention of the media, who reported the comments under the headline “Number of pathological Internet gamblers up.” (more…)

Under the plan, three casinos would be built in Penghu, an island chain in the Taiwan Strait.
Taiwan’s parliament is set to legalize gambling on offshore islands as soon as the end of 2008, news agencies have reported.

In a private meeting on Friday, Taiwanese lawmakers agreed to put the bill to a formal vote, with a majority indicating their support, a senior legislative aide said.

Poker Notes and Your Poker Library

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Here ia what I found when browsing poker net. I think it is quite usefull for beginners!

Advice from dgillis :

The college I attended was both a blessing and a curse. I call it a curse because, well, I’m still paying for it and probably will be until I die. However, I firmly believe that my time there played an enormous role in who I am and how I think. The person who most influenced the way I think was a history professor in his early 40’s. Let’s call him Dr. M. The good doctor was one of those people who are just noticeably smarter than you could reasonably expect anyone to be. He possessed a great wit and since of humor that allowed me to easily understand and relate to his teachings. (more…)

Review: Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a Time Volume I

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

The poker book section of your local Barnes and Noble has, to this point, been dominated by your more mainstream, recognizable authors – Brunson, Hellmuth, Negreanu, and the like. But just as the younger generation of players has been steadily making inroads at the table, so too are they starting to elbow their way on to the shelves. One of the strongest entries from the new generation of pros is a collaborative effort authored by three top players who cut their teeth primarily online: Eric ‘Rizen’ Lynch, Jon ‘Pearljammer’ Turner and Jon ‘Apestyles’ Van Fleet.

Overview
——–
WPTOH is a book focused exclusively on tournament play. Volume One covers early stage play through bubble play. The book focuses exclusively on hand analysis, drawing on a couple hundred hands from actual tournament play, and doesn’t provide anything in the way of fundamental theory or generalized strategy.
