Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

After approximately two decades after the first casino started its business in Russia, Russian government has banned gambling across most of its territory forcing casino owners drive the industry underground. All casinos and slot-machine halls are outlawed from the day the ban has come into effect in June 2009. With the exception of four far-flung special zones, no gambling is now allowed across the Russian Federation.

Online Gambling Sites Win One More Round

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Kentucky, a haven for gamblers who want to bet on horse racing, has hit a setback in its efforts to stop unregulated online casino gambling. In a 2-1 ruling Tuesday, the Kentucky Court of Appeals said the state does not have the jurisdiction to seize 141 online casinos’ Internet domain names in an effort to keep them from operating in the state. The ruling also said a Franklin Circuit Court judge cannot hold further hearings on the issue. “This is a tremendous victory for Internet freedom and the rights of Kentucky residents who enjoy playing online poker,” said John Pappas, executive director of the Poker Players Alliance, in a statement. It has been estimated that about 13,000 Kentuckians play the online casinos. Jay Blanton, a spokesman for Gov. Steve Beshear, said the state did not receive the ruling until late Tuesday. “We want to take some time to review it. No decision has yet been made on whether to appeal it to the state Supreme Court,” Blanton said. (more…)

Online Gambling Legalization in The US Can Really Happen

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

dps Barney Frank – the chairman of the US Financial Services Committee – has introduced a bill that would legalize and regulate online gambling in the country. The bill is called the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act of 2009 (IGRCPEA). Though this new law can be considered similar to Frank’s previous bill called Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act of 2007, it is a more through carefully worked out law, where the main emphasis is laid on customer protection. This emphasis can convince oppositionist of online gambling legalization of the necessity of adopting the bill. The viewpoint of the previous law opponents was based on the children and problem gamblers concern. But the additions to the newly created bill carefully stipulate those controversial aspects.

Gambling Industry is Strong Despite Everything

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

It is not easy to do business these days. But I think that we shouldn’t say crisis! We’d better call this time “TIME OPENED FOR NEW ENHANCED OPPORTUNITIES”. Recent events in Gambling industry life proves that I’m absolutely right.

Global Gaming Expo, held November 18-20th, 2008 , at the Las Vegas Convention Center showed no depression. “While it’s true that the current economic downturn is a challenge the likes of which our industry has not seen before, the positive feedback we have received from our exhibitors and attendees is evidence that G2E 2008 has been a real success story,” said Frank J.Fahrenkopf, Jr., president and CEO of the American Gaming Association. And that’s true: G2E 2008 attracted a total of 724 exhibitors, including 117 exhibitors from countries outside the U.S. A significant increase in international attendance, attracting 3,901 attendees from 89 different countries, an increase of 11 percent over 2007 international attendance numbers, have been seen. This year’s attendees came from Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Ecuador, Finland, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Latvia, Malaysia, New Zealand, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, the Russian Federation, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and others.

So, as far as you can see, gambling industry is one of those which are trying to obtain as much as possible from the situation we have. Keep faith!

Antigua and Barbuda and the USA gambling licenses problems disputes history

Friday, December 5th, 2008

In June of 2003 Antigua and Barbuda initiated the dispute process of the World Trade Organization against the U.S. Antigua argued that the U.S.’s restrictive Internet gambling policies constitute a violation of an international pact called the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS). The compliance deadline of April 3, 2006 passed without any U.S. action. In fact, U.S. legislators actually worked to pass contrary legislation and were eventually successful in passing a bill aimed at prohibiting online gambling altogether in September of 2006.

In November of 2004 a WTO dispute panel ruled that the U.S. does indeed give preferential treatment to its domestic remote gambling operators in violation of the GATS. Following an appeal by the U.S., the Appellate Body of the WTO issued a similar ruling in April of 2005. The U.S. was then given a one-year period in which to bring its laws into conformity with the GATS, which it could do either by giving Antiguan operators access to the U.S. market or by shutting down its domestic remote horse race wagering operators.
