Jim McDermott Introduces New Internet Gambling Legislation

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

More information to continue the previous article:

The online poker world was buzzing on Wednesday with the news that Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA) had introduced legislation that would allocate up to $40 billion over the next decade to provide educational and job training assistance to current and former foster care participants as well as people in declining job sectors. How does this affect online poker, you ask? Great question! The $40 billion in revenue won’t come from existing taxes or even increasing the federal deficit. Instead, the new relief will come from federal taxation of internet gambling, if and when the industry is allowed back into the United States.

The bill, HR 6501, known as the Investing in our Human Resources Act of 2008, was formally introduced by Congressman McDermott on Wednesday. It gives new and important opportunities to two critically underserved populations – those in foster care and those in what a letter from McDermott describes as “old-economy jobs.” Up to $40 billion will be allocated for these groups from internet gambling. The letter continues: “Revenues generated by internet wagers that are legal and regulated would be deposited into a newly-created Transitional Assistance Trust Fund. Money from this trust fund would be made available to states and territories based on population.” (more…)

How to play online casinos

Friday, July 18th, 2008

It’s a common assumption that everyone who knows how to play the basic casino games would also know all about playing casinos online. But it’s also a common misconception. Clearly, if you have search for “how to play online casinos” you are one of the millions who are looking for a quick guide on how to set up and play an Internet casino. You are in luck, we have this info, read on:

First and foremost, you have to make sure that online gambling is legal in your jurisdiction. Some countries are pretty lenient, but others go as far as considering online gambling (and gambling in general) a sin, so make sure you are on the safe side before you even begin. For the purpose of this guide, we assume that gambling is indeed legal where you reside.

Step 1: In order to play online casinos, you have to find one (or more) which are trusted and yet entertaining. Feel free to click on any of the casino banners on this page - they are all 100% secure, fun and would assure our own existence in the future through advertising dollars. Let’s say you decide to visit Reels777, developed by Viaden Media, since it’s website layout is a bit complicated. Once you click on the banner or link, you will be redirected to the gambling website, where you will see a button called “Download” the casino. So far it’s pretty straight forward - all you do is download the casino software to your computer. At this point you have not opened an account or committed to anything. You can either choose to install the already downloaded casino software or delete it.

Step 2: Install the online casino. Nothing more simple than this. Once you download the online casino software to your computer, all you have to do is double-click and follow the prompts. No, you are not ready to play online casinos just yet. on Reels777 you dont have to download games to play. (more…)

Online casino legalization

Friday, July 18th, 2008

In a USA Today story about Jim McDermott’s new bill proposing the taxation and regulation of online gambling to raise revenue for the development of human resources, the newspaper ran a poll online to determine public views.

The question asked was : Is it time to legalize online gambling?

As always with polls, the posing of the question becomes as important as the answer; many polls achieve desired results by slanting the question in a certain way. For instance, if Focus on the Family (a group whose very name gives them a misleading identification and power; a truer name would be Small-Minded Religious Fanatics) had asked this question, it might take the form of: Should we legalize online gambling and condemn our children to hell? Bingo History

Friday, July 11th, 2008

The absolute origins of Bingo dates back several centuries to 1530 Italy, where individuals participated in a lottery style game called, “Lo Giuoco del Lotto D’Italia”, which is still played in the country today each Saturday. The game was introduced to French nobility in the late 1770s, where it was simply called “Le Lotto”. However, in this article, we will focus more on the origins of the fantastic game as it is known today - “Bingo!”It all started at a small carnival just outside of Atlanta, Georgia in 1929. A toy manufacturer from New York by the name of Edwin Lowe was perusing the fairway of the carnival when he caught wind of a great commotion in one of the large, covered tents. Upon entering, Lowe discovered a mass of people seated at tables playing a game called “Beano”.

The game was played with each player using dried beans to cover the numbers depicted on a cardboard Beano card. The Beano card held 25 squares in a 5×5 pattern, with a random number between 1 and 75 in each square. At the front of the tent was a man drawing numbered discs from a cigar box. This man would call out the number on the disc, and the players would ‘bean’ their cards accordingly.

The Beano game went on into the wee hours of the night, with a large crowd of enthusiastic participants still remaining. Finally, around 2-3am, the man running the game told everyone to please go home - the game is over. Much to their displeasure, and not without argument, the players finally left. (more…)

Congressmen Vote To Allow Illegal Online Gambling To Harm Children

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

The United States government likes to claim they are looking out for our children’s futures. Today on Capitol Hill, those same congressman who like to say they protect children, made the mistake of putting America’s youth in a harmful path.

Thirty two members of Congress voted on a Bill today that could forever change the future of many American children. Instead of having the protection of our government, today’s youth will have to decide on their own which gambling website out of the thousands available to them, could destroy their futures.

A Bill was being presented by Rep. Barney Frank that would have regulated an online gambling industry who will prey on anyone who they can steal money from. The Bill was defeated , in large part, because the thirty two members that voted against it were ignorant to what they were voting on. (more…)

Net gambling foe applauds

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Alabama Republican Rep. Spencer Bachus issued this news release late Wednesday after efforts faltered to amend the nation’s ban on internet gambling.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Spencer Bachus called the defeat of legislation designed to block a ban on illegal Internet gambling a “victory for young people.”

The House Financial Services Committee today voted down a bill that would have prevented federal agencies from issuing rules implementing the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act(UIGEA).

Bachus was instrumental in defending the law during debate in committee. Bachus helped author the ban, which was signed into law by President Bush in October 2006.

Bachus issued the following statement:

“Today’s vote was a victory for young people because illegal Internet gambling brings the casino into their bedrooms and dorm rooms, sometimes with tragic consequences.

“Whatever else is said about it, illegal Internet gambling is a federal crime and a crime in all 50 states. Its most vulnerable victims are the young people who by the tens of thousands have been exposed to the risk of becoming compulsive, addictive gamblers. (more…)
